News Release: Local 2000 Unimpressed By NWA Presentation
It would not be appropriate or productive to schedule additional meetings.
March 11, 2003
To the Members of Teamsters Local 2000,
On Tuesday, March 11th the leadership of Teamsters Local 2000 attended a presentation conducted by Northwest Airlines regarding the state of today''s airline industry. This was the first of three meetings Northwest Airlines has asked all of the Unions to attend.
Unfortunately, we did not learn anything new during this presentation that hasn''t already been printed in a number of newspapers. What''s more, there was no indication that Northwest Airlines has changed its position with regard to ''permanent labor cost restructuring.''
Because our members have already made extraordinary sacrifices; and because we remain strongly opposed to any type of ''permanent'' restructuring, we do not think it would be appropriate or productive for us to attend any more of these presentations.
As stated in our February 7th letter to you, Local 2000 is very sensitive to the challenges facing our industry and we remain committed to the success of Northwest Airlines and its employees.
In Unity,
The Trustees and Base Representatives of Teamsters Local 2000
