Lufthansa Technik will soon start installing equipment capable of providing live satellite TV on board a fleet of 15, state-of-the-art Airbus A-330 aircraft owned by national carrier Qatar Airways, August W Henningsen, Chairman, LH-Technik, said.
The Qatari flag carrier will become the first international carrier to offer live satellite TV on board, according to a LH Technik press release. This facility, once operational, will allow Qatar Airways passengers to stay abreast with the latest worldwide news, business news and developments and watch live sports events, among others, during their flight.
The Hamburg base of LH Technik was expected to receive the first of these aircraft from Qatar Airways by March, said Aage Dunhaupt, Director, International Communications, LH Technik. Speaking to reporters in this German city, Dunhaupt disclosed, his company will install this equipment under a recent deal signed between LH Technik and Qatar Airways. Under the agreement, these 15 Airbus A-330 aircraft of Qatar Airways will be fitted with Rockwell Collins Tailwind 560 equipment for onboard live satellite TV. Engineers and technicians at LH Technik, he said, would equip the Qatar Airways fleet with antennas and related systems and integrate the TV function unto the existing in-flight entertainment modules, he explained.
