Lightning strike inspections

I loved the opening paragraph of the article:

"Faced with criticism from some safety experts and federal regulators, AMR Corp.'s American Airlines has decided to give its mechanics greater leeway to inspect jetliners for damage in cases of suspected lightning strikes." (Italics mine.)

According to the 10pm news on the NBC station here in Dallas, it was the FAA who told American that the old procedures would prevail where the mechanic makes the decision on whether or not more extensive inspection is needed.

Good of American Airlines to concur with the FAA, don't you think?
