Insurance/Transport Canada related questions:

Is it legal to have a pilot in the right seat(rated on type), duals installed and a pilot (unrated on type) flying from the left seat? Is this strictly insurance related or does transport canada have something to say about this also?

If the right seat means the seat from which the aircraft may be flown solo then it is legal only if the guy "flying" is undertaking flight training to get an endorsement on the type. But then, he should be in the PIC seat - the right one. This only counts if the pilot that is endorsed holds a commercial and has more then 10 hours on type himself.

If the pilot "flying" is working and is not rated then he''s breaking CARS 401.03(1)(a).

I''m sure the insurance company would wash their hands clean of the whole situation since the aircraft is operating illegally and they''re no longer liable for anything unfavourable that happens.
