LCC's and Transpacific

My father was in town driving through and he stopped to have a bite and go out for a drink with me. He has just had a second interview for an 747-400 FO for Oasis Hong Kong Airlines (wish him luck!). For those of you unfamiliar, Oasis is a startup that is trying to make the LCC model work transpacific and provide some competition to airlines such as Cathay. They currently fly to Vancouver on the west coast, and were trying to secure landing rights at either SEA or SFO but apparently something threw a wrench and the works and nothing ended up happening.

My dad happened to mention to me, however, that part of their plan was to pursue partnerships with other LCC's to help feed traffic to the cities they'll be serving.

It's easy to see where my mind went next.

Why not DEN? Denver has been trying to lure transpacific service for a while now that they have the new runway, and Oasis would have the route to itself. F9 has their extensive domestic network, and DEN has a large and mobile Asian community that keeps growing. It's a secondary market that could match perfectly to a low-cost-carrier trying to find a niche.

So now that I've said this out loud to someone besides my dad, maybe it'll get picked up and considered by those who should. Maybe they have thought about this already, who knows? If not, I hope someone in Denver hears it and at least considers a transpacific partnership like this. I guess rumor has it WestJet might already be interested from YVR, but I speculate.

I have read some of the pilots/mechanics and general avitaion tech know-it-alls mention that the high altitude is problematic for long distance flights out of DEN. I guess it affects the performance of a large aircraft with heavy pax/carg and fuel loads. But then again I know I've seen LH in DEN before but I don't recall the aircraft type and who knows if it is weight restricted.

You're right, that is an issue esp. during hot months... but as I understand it, the opening of the new 16,000ft runway is supposed to take care of that issue... max pax and fuel on aircraft up to the a380... It was a major stumbing block to attracting asia service, and the main justification for the expansion... Of course, that was back when UA showed an interest in developing Denver as another gateway, so...

and yeah, BA has 777's to LHR and LH had 744's (though two weeks ago, the plane I saw on concourse A was an a346).
