JUN. 22 7:20 P.M. ET Numerous U.S. airlines kicked off the summer with a round of fare increases, citing the latest surge in fuel costs for the need to charge up to 3 percent more per trip.

Airlines increase many fares by up to 3 pct.

This is just about the only industry I know of which prices its product in total disregard for cost. While I do not object to these increases to make up for the surge in fuel costs, I don't approve of gouging either--adjust a RATIONAL fare schedule and it's okay--for those who object to a $49 fare going to $69, too bad, but not a $1200 fare to $1400...

Reasonable is fine....gouging is not.
