Memphis International Airport will receive a $12.5 million grant from the state Department of Transportation, Tennessee Gov. Phil Beredesen announced Tuesday. TDOT's Aeronautics Division awarded the grant -- a combination of federal and state funds -- to assist the airport with improvement projects.
These projects include construction to improve the airport's taxiway, ramp and general infrastructure.
"Memphis International Airport is a key part of our state's transportation system, serving the commercial airline industry, air cargo, military aviation and general aviation," Bredesen said in a statement. "It is vital that we keep this airport operating competitively to maintain and enhance its economic impact in Tennessee."
