I flew a US/UA pair of flights yesterday. Put my Div Miles card into the kiosk and it gave me the itinerary of another passenger with a similar name and would've happily printed the tix!
After a recent trip to PIT from ROA, I found that for some unknown reason, the kiosks in ROA were not allowing passengers with div cards or employees passes to use them for boarding passes or itineraries. This function had to be handled by the Piedmont employees at the counter. The only passengers who were allowed to use the kiosks successfully were those paying with credit card for tickets.
Now, why is it that at PIT and DCA there aren't any restrictions on who can use the kiosks, but at a small regional like ROA there are restrictions. I know it wasn't like that when ROA first got their two kiosks. And I know it works at DCA because of a recent trip I took out of there.
Is someone afraid of technology taking away a job? They shouldn't be, because there were plenty of passengers that day that needed counter help. The only result from the kiosk restriction was a line backup and several people missing out on flights that morning because of time constraints and TSA having to wait for passengers to get tickets before checking bags.
