Flights to Key West EYW seem to disappear in mid January. I thought US was going to put an RJ into there. Is this really a station close?

If you look further ahead (Feb), you'll see RJ flights to FLL.

It does appear that the TPA-EYW flights were chopped. As were the other intra-Florida routes that relied on Air Midwest. IIRC, someone on this board reported that Air Midwest was pulling out.

It appears the only intra-Florida flights US will have will be to feed the FLL focus city.

It also means that VPS and PFN are no longer part of the USAirways network as neither have service to CLT currently.

You mean Key West is actually going to allow a jet to fly in? I thought they limited flights to props back when we pulled the F28's out. Maybe Barbie's dreamjets are quieter.

Ah the late '80s, 9 hour layovers with 0 sleep...the Dutch Oven with her one bathroom on that short little hop...one fit for a king...in this case, queen. Ah, the rush to light that cigarette from the party goers on the last two rows. Ah, the varicose veins I adore to this day for climbing quickly to the 90% of the time empty First Class to watch the beautiful colors of blue and green that make the Keys so magical....F*** the view, I was resting my arse for the 9 other legs that would take me from TPA-FLL-TPA-FLL-TPA-FLL-TPA-FLL...oh did I mention TPA-FLL?

Ah, the 80's...Key West...the boys...the F28.

But as far as the TPA-FLL thang, SWA, you can have it. :p

air midwest beechcraft operators owned by mesa airlines pulling out of florida..right now they are the only ones servicing intra-florida

This was a foreseeable event. Its been known for about 3 years that Mesa wanted to eventually do away with the B-1900s.

Actually, Delta has been all-jet in EYW for a while now. ASA is flying CRJ-700's from ATL (for performance reasons if memory serves) while Chautauqua is flying ERJ-135's from MCO. I guess the main concern is the short runway.

It also appears that MHH and ELH are no longer going to be US Airways Express, either, though service continues through the codeshare with UP (Bahamasair).

keep your "boy" stuff for another thread.... Don't "reminece" here!! Why don't you move to the keys??

IIRC, the sticking point in EYW was noise abatement - they will only accept stage III aircraft. Most modern jets met that requirement.

noise and runway length are the considerations. Eastern used to go in and out with 727s. That's a good plane for short fields.

Correct, CHQ uses 135's to MCO for field/performance reasons. We can fly them full most of the time, occasionally restricted if there is a lot of alternate gas required and it's really hot. The ASA 700's to ATL are usually blocked at 55 pax winter, 50 summer for the same reasons.

If U were to start with the 145, the restrictions would depend on the codeshare (different engine types and brake setups) CHQ's LR's with the big (relatively) engines could handle 40 or so, similar performance to our DL 135's. If it was an ER with A1 power, I would guess 30 max. Not sure of the CRJ 200's capabilities, but my guess is no-go otherwise DL would have done it by now..

I have an idea!!!! The Dash 8/Q400 in EYW, I am sure you could haul 70 people in and out of there all day! But wait! We already own Dash 8/300's that can carry 50 people with 2500Ibs of bags and it could easily do EYW. Crap, that makes too much sense too! Sorry forgot the airline I work for!

For what it's worth, I believe it's loaded into sabre, to be PSA 50 seaters doing the FLL EYW run....
