Judge allows creditor vote on US Airways plan

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug 9- A federal judge on Tuesday cleared the way for creditors of bankrupt US Airways (UAIRQ.OB: Quote, Profile, Research) to formally vote on a plan by a group of investors to combine the struggling carrier with America West Airlines (AWA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) .
Judge Stephen Mitchell of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia also set a Sept. 15 date for a hearing to confirm the merger that would create the nation's fifth-biggest airline.
America West shareholders are due to meet Sept. 13 to consider the merger.
