JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) - An airline operating out of Johnstown's airport will begin using a larger plane to try to boost ticket sales.

Virginia-based carrier Colgan Air said it plans to starting flying a 34-seat Saab 340 from the airport. Plans to bring the larger planes to the airport, about 55 miles east of Pittsburgh, were put on hold last year.

When Colgan replaced Chautauqua Air as the US Airways Express operator for Johnstown and Altoona in 2002, 19-passenger Beechcraft airplanes replaced Chautauqua's Saabs.

Larger aircraft should return to the airport by mid-July, according to company officials.

they close TOL but upgrade johnstown?WTF is up with these people
The SAAB can compete in Johnstown... The only competition is a drive to PIT where there are still no "deals" to be had...

The SAAB's are uncompetitive in Toledo because, for the same price, you can catch an RJ to whereever you are going, or get a better deal on the ATA SAAB, or drive to DTW, CLE, or DAY and get a better deal on LUV, Spirit, AWA, or AirTran, and fly a mainline aircraft for less.

yes, thus you upgrade the service to an RJ, had them before and had crazy load factors.
A regional jet on a 55 mile route? Why???

Hey just like when they first got the 757s they ran one from CLT-AVL-CLT and then found out the taxiways could not accomdate the plane and the engines were sucking up dirt, rocks and grass.
