Island Air the local commuter airline, launched its new aircraft, marketing campaign and services on Tuesday.
The company, spun off from Aloha Airlines as a third interisland carrier, wants to establish itself as an independent operation with a strong brand name before the competition in the interisland market heats up. Phoenix-based regional airline Mesa Airlines will start flying this summer.
Island Air says its undisclosed investment in upgrading its existing fleet and adding new planes will help it get a stronger foothold in the market, where it still is perceived as being part of Aloha.
"We have 103 departures with a flight leaving every 14 minutes," said Rob Mauracher, airline CEO. "The idea with the rebranding is that we are an alternative for people. It's not focused on price but is a way to get us back in the limelight and make people understand that we have high-tech aircraft; we are safe and comfortable."
The airline's new campaign slogan is "Island Air: Always here to take you there." And the promise is to bring back fun and convenience to traveling interisland.
