British Airways has asked Swiss at the urging of partner AA to join the One World alliance. The next airline open and being urgerd to join Syyteam is KLM. Since KLM will likely end up at part of British or Air France, what will they choose. If KLM joins Skyteam it would move One World from the number two spot to the number three spot.

In all fairness to Mikey, It is very important to our survival who we associate with. The FF base of these programs could benefit AA alot. Where they rank as far as members and range of cities is very important to the FF.

I disagree. I think most passengers for the most part buy a ticket on an airline without regard to their alliance.

FA Mikey. I don't mean to be sarcastic and I know that this is a forum for issues just like you posted. But really who cares if OneWorld is #1, 2 or 3?
We as AA employees are fighting for our economic lives and we should care about OneWorld dropping in the rankings?

I care as much about Oneworld as I do about Ben and J-LO's wedding!

Domestically yes, but professional international FF's consider the alliance heavily.

Your welcome to disagree but I know several people who will fly AA for our Alliance with Qantas.

There was a great article in Airways Magazine a few months ago. They interviewed the oneworld guru's and it basically said their emphasis is quality, not quantity. They feel by offer a seamless and consistant service, they can retain a more valuable client base and demand a higher premium.

The article hinted that with STAR, it's almost too big for its own good.

This will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Alliances don't matter to the majority of customers, but they do matter to the minority that bring in the very high fares. Though I tottally agree with the philosphy of quality over quantity. With the exception of Iberia, who is improving, all the oneWorld airlines have pretty good reputations for service and quality.

In my opinion, I think Swiss makes for an excellent member into oneWorld. So do Alaska Airlines, Emirates, El Al, KLM, Gulf Air (not all of them, of course).

I don't know whether KL will join either 1world or skyteam. Not because KL doesn't want to, but because of 1) anti-trust concerns and 2) NW.

Recall that a couple years ago BA and KL were talking (merger?) but the talks fell apart because of a) disagreements over the ownership structure of the new airline company and B) the price (slots) BA and KL would have to give up at LHR and AMS respectively. Surely the EU would raise similar concerns this time around.

Another problem for KL is the marketing agreement with NW. If KL decides to join Skyteam would NW join also? A Skyteam with AF, Alitalia, KL, DL, NW, (CO?) should raise some anti-trust concerns.

Unless, NW and KL mutually agree to end their marketing relationship, that way NW (and CO?) joins skyteam (codesharing with DL is a start) and KL pursues joining 1world.

Just my $0.02
