Inside The Numbers: Flying The Friendly Skies

This is the smartest piece of reading material I have read in a long time. I guess the support of it will be according to which airline you work for.

Hey, thanks WNforlife, for posting this. I almost missed it. Without all the back and forth my airlines better than your airline, it would make for a great conversation.

When did we start flying out of Hartsfield? This is posted on the Southwest site because?...

From the article:
Airlines should price tickets based on the business acumen which worked so well in earlier decades. Each ticket should be set to cover the costs of operations and be marked up for a profit

Southwest pretty much does that already. But for some unknown reason, the other airlines feel the need to "out-Southwest" Southwest. Or, in the case of Hartsfield, they try to "out Airtran" Airtran. Sorry he finds that other folks reasons to travel are not as important as his. Seems to me that if airfares were reregulated so that every airline made a profit, then the need of employees of other airlines would be reduced, since the demand for air travel just wouldn't be there.

I guess if I were an airline employee, I'd welcome the backpack toting, sandal wearing customer since their dollar spends just as good as Donald Trumps does. I also noticed that the writer didn't say where he was going, or how much he paid for HIS ticket. My bet is - it wasn't "full fare", and I'd also wager that the price he DID pay didn't cover the cost to fly him there. And if that were the case, and his suggestion were adopted, I'd wager we'd see a column on "The high cost of flying" sooner rather than later.

The jest of the story is that this particular person thinks people shouldn't fly unless they are some kind of eliteist or something.

Just goes to show you what some people think.
