Why not phase out all the Hi-8mm players on the 737/A319/A320/A321/757/767 in favor of a DVD player.

Since a different safety tape has to be produced for each aircraft, that must be a costly duplication expense. But, writeable DVD''s are cheap now. You could have ONE DVD that gets distributed to all aircraft. Then, through the DVD menu system, the FA would select the safety program for the respective aircraft.
Same goes for the movies. While you can only fit one movie + the short programming on one DVD, the duplication costs will still be reduced by not having to use tapes.
And, an added benefit - the picture quality will be so much better for your passengers. No more tracking problems, or just plain bad pictures because the tape is on it''s 500th playback.
