I have no idea where the company is getting the aircrafts and staffing for this, but I was talking to the Honolulu staff and they said they are adding flights from Las Vegas also.

So we have Phoenix Honolulu, Maui, Kauai and Kona (starting in March) from Phoenix and Las Vegas (in March)

All I can is AFA and the company better get the ball rolling, we need staffing.

By the way, Honolulu used to be an Inflight base for America West when we used to service Nagoya. I wonder if the company is thinking about starting a base here in the future for asian routes.

Somebody from the West side could give better info, but I understand that most or all of their 757's will be ETOPS qualified.

A/C N901AW will be ETOPS ready soon - I understand that a few of our 57's will not make the trip but if I understand correctly 901 through 910 are to be used.

10 a/c are going to be ETOPS qual and Eric is right the Eastern Airlines 75's will not be included in this number. As far as staff goes, first intial FA class is scheduled for early March with approximately 30 people. 25 are expected to graduate.

So who is supposed to be in that class? New hires or invols? Or have they figured it out yet?

Just curious- what steps and costs are involved in converting a 752 to ETOPS? What additional equipment must be on board?

Not sure of the cost but I would have to imagine that it isn't cheap. LOL Is anything in aviation?? :D It all depends on the current configuration of the aircraft as to what additional systems, equipment, etc. need to be installed.

In the cabin there are four overhead center compartments which hold infant life preservers and rafts. All seats had to have a life preserver compartment added under the seats because they use real life preservers rather then the seat cushions. There is also survival gear nad survival kits for each door, and a water-activated Emergency Locater Transmitter. There also will be a new video prepared for briefing the passengers before the flight departs on the operation of the equipment in the ETOPS aircraft as oppossed to normal non-ETOPS aircraft.

A pilot can answer what's new up front, but it includes two HF radios and possibly additional some navigation equipment.

Also, don't forget additional crew training costs. All the pilots of all of the 757's and all the West FA's had to be trained for the new equipment and they all had to go swimming.

I have no idea what maintenance costs were, but at a minimum they included all the time proving the engines could operate with extremely minimal shutdowns and completing a huge paper trail on many factors.

Trust me, it ain't cheap.....

Actually, not much. First the A/C has to be overwater equipped, that means, as mentioned previously, rafts, life vests, and other emergency equipment (ELT's etc. ), as well as HF radios, etc. For ETOP's, additional eqipment such as a hydraulic motor generator (allows RAT hydraulics to power a small electric generator), cargo fire protection, and dual fuel crossfeed valves. The biggest thing is certification. Establishing a maintenance program that ensures maximum performance and tracking of critical components; engines, APU's etc.

A/C 901 is 2 weeks late getting out of mod's mainly because the e.o. paperwork for the hf system is messed up.
also it would be nice if Parker could take the money from his bonus and pay Boeing the 1 mil. per a/c to be able to use the landing gear to what they were made to do then we could fly the plane's full.
