Have you ever ran into a Brake job like this?

Rotor, key or stator broke and jammed the wheel on the axle. Part of the fun of heavy metal.

It''s not something that''s common, thankfully, but far from unheard of. I''ve seen a half dozen occurrances in the last twenty years, usually from the causes TDR1502C mentioned. I''ve never seen it result an any real damage to the aircraft or danger to passengers though. Having the tire stuck to the brake is a real problem, particularly on aircraft like the 727 where the brake is held on by bolts that can only be removed with the tire off.

The other interesting thing about those pictures is when they have cut into the tire. It gives an unusual view of just how thick aircraft tires are compared to auto tires.
