With this "abortion" of a proposal, with regard to the "surviving" NW stations,
GIMME A BREAK.

Cross utalization ??

Consider these scenarios.

(This IS NOT a knock on any person, who currently an agent) !!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's Jan-Feb in MSP, and NW wants agents(who have been agents for a loooong time) to go "outside", in the belly of a 757, to "freeload" cargo, that will max-out the a/c, AND expect it to depart ON TIME !!
(Lets not forget the DE-ICING)

First of all(by human nature) the original rampers wont be going out of there way to "go the extra mile" to assist the "new" rampers !!!!!!!!!( Nothing personal, "JUST BUSINESS") !!

The "Injury -on-duty" claims, (should legitimately) BE OFF THE CHARTS !!!

(Folks, Dont forget, In most states, if your injured on the job, you weekly/bi-monthly $$ benefit is determined by your earnings for the "PREVIOUS" 12 months) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Each state has different work-comp laws, and I'd venture a guess that a state like Tennessee's benefits(MEM) , would be inferior to more "progressive states" like say Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington State.

What about the massive amounts of training for BOTH groups that would be needed, to cross utilize....... ramp to agent/ agent to A/F, A/f to agent, agent to ramp etc, etc, etc ?????

AND again, "It's DE-ICING season time "

As I stated before. GROUND CO ??..........."GROUND CO. ... MY AS*" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What does "freeload' mean?
As far as the deicing goes guess what? We can do that to. I bet we might even get some on the aircraft.
Could you imagine an entire ground operation made-up of nothing but mechanics? The diversity that the company would have when it came to manipulating manpower?

If I'm not mistaken, some out stations for Pan Am were made up entirely of mechanics. That worked out pretty well for them, didn't it?

Why are you so eager to be manipulated?

I hate to bring this to your attention, but if you have less than a certain amount of flights, there wasn't a split between the rampers and "insiders". A Certain amount of cross-utilization was probably being used already. They are just trying to increase the amount of this. Before PVD got service to Minneapolis, they were run like this when just Detroit was a destination.

Markkus--

You're absolutely correct. They're reffered to as "4 hour rule" stations at NW, and all employees at those stations are Customer service agents. There are many, many stations in the network that fall under this, but like you mentioned they are relatively small; none are on the scale of say MSP or DTW. For the record, I don't think that the 4 hour rule is a bad thing-indeed it's quite efficient at a station with only a few flights daily.

When PVD added the MSP flights, they had enough flight activity to no longer qualify under those rules, and that's why it's now also staffed with ramp service (MHT, RSW, and FNT are a few other stations that have done this within the last couple of years).

Thank you for that lovely answer NHBB. I feel so much more educated now. Your insightfulness must be infinite.

Kev, maybe "manipulation wasn't a very good term to use, I am sure you know what I mean. Good rib shot though. I am sure "freeloading has nothing to do with rotting food in New Orleans so what does it mean. Also I am not familiar with this "4 hour rule" thing exactly what is it and where did it originate?

Free loading sounds to me like ou just take last min pax bags or other cargo that is waiting to go to destination "x". Once you know th loads of the aorcraft, they expect you to 'free load' the extra bags on the A/C till it's load is maxed out.

That's just a WAG (wild a$s guess) on my part though.

That sounds plausible, does anyone care to verify this? That’s a nice shot in the dark Garfield.

NH/BB, We all understand that you do not know, no more shots in the dark from you please.

What's wrong PTO, Does the truth (about yourself) hurt? If you don't like it, just leave(this forum) and do everyone a favor and never return.

Reminder: NHBB/Redtail is a troll.

(ever notice how NHBB can perfectly execute all kinds of punctuation but can't even spell ???)

I believe if you look in the dictionary and find the word 'troll' the description will include something cowardly.

Back on the purported topic: if an employee (union or non-union) does not want to work for the offered wage then they should find another career.
