Congratulations go out to the Southwest Aircraft Maintenance Technicians who won the "Gold" in the Aviation International Expo's "Maintenance Olympics" in Orlando, FL last week.

The Southwest Team, and the other three teams they competed against, show what true AMTs are all about. There was competition but all the AMTs there are in a Brotherhood of professionals.

Hopefully someone will post a few photos. I will have a new page on the AMTA web site at WWW.AMTAUSA.COM showing these professionals. Until then, WAY TO GO SOUTHWEST!

Congratulations SouthWest AMT'S. See ya next year in DAL. B)

I have worked for other airlines before, and I can tell you that not only are Southwest mechanics good at what they do, I have witnessed some of most enthusiastic, happy employees here in the ranks of the mechanics. Great job guys!

What's that say?
Aviations Kill?
or
Aviation Skill?

Putting the words together, can get multiple meanings.

Congratulations SouthWest AMT'S. See ya next year in DAL. B)

Being one of the Directors for the AMT Society I am privledged to be the Cochairman for the Maintenance Skills Competition to be held at the next Aviation Industry Expo to be held at the Dallas Convention Center next March 18-20, 2008. The Maintenance Skills Competition, MSC, is taking the place of the "Olympics" but the format is basically the same.

Events that Teams will compete in will cover almost every aspect of what aircraft maintenance is about today with events from safety wiring to composite repair, electrical/avionics troubleshooting, etc. Each event will be graded on time. Each event will be 20 minutes long with "penalties" given in time additions from 5 thru 30 seconds. Hence if one event a team completes the event in 16 minutes and has two penalties of 5 and 15 second amounts that time will be 16 minutes and 35 seconds. All times will be added for each team covering about 12 events. The three LOWEST combined times will take 1, 2 & 3rd place.

This event will showcase the knowledge, skill & integrity of today's AMTs. The MSC is open to all licensed AMTs, students enrolled in Part 147 schools and members of our Armed Forces in the aircraft maintenance field. This competition will help show the public who today's skilled AMTs are about and the many different aspects of what it takes to maintain our nation's fleet of aircraft safe & airworthy.

I am in contact with SWA and they have voiced interest in fielding a team for this competition but have not committed yet. I am confident they will and defend their championship. If anyone has questions about this event I would be happy to answer them. We will also have an Individual MSC where participants compete in three event with only a 1st place award given. All entry fees are donations and are tax deductible. All proceeds will go towards the AMT Society Scholarship Awards which will help future generations of AMTs meet their financial cost in becoming AMTs. Sincerely, Kenneth MacTiernan Director AMT Society Cochairman MSC

I saw the team last year in LAS. It was cool to see the skills of the A&P gurus. I think they received a bronze. So congrats on the gold SWA MX!!!

I saw swa in action last year they looked good. The tube bending guy was fat so was the saftey wire guy and rigging. Hell the SWA team was fast so was midcoast could you please tell in more detal about this years events thanks hank

Oh well, looks like it's starting to rain already on this parade...

Cannot believe that even you would have the nerve to go there. All that needs to be said is three letters:
S...U...X.
Chutzpah!

Agreed, mga. Those remarks coming from a guy who's own airline is outsourcing more & more of their mx to who knows what part of the third world.

magsau,

Judge, jury, and executioner all rolled up in one. At least you are consistent in not letting facts get in the way of any of your opinions.

BTW, I have met these skilled professionals and I am very proud of the work that they have and continue to perform.
