Delta Air Lines Inc., which is operating under bankruptcy protection, said Friday a computer software glitch at a security checkpoint at the world's busiest airport cost it more than $1.3 million.

The revelation about Wednesday's disruption at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport came in a letter from Joe Kolshak, Delta's executive vice president and chief of operations, to Transportation Security Administration Director Kip Hawley.

"These costs are not insignificant for an airline that is fighting for its survival," Kolshak wrote.

IIRC, DL has charged that the US gov't is holding back payment on some gov't/military traffic... can't remember the details. Perhaps, DL will try to argue this security issue is an offset to what the gov't is asserting.... who knows. but the TSA needs to get its act together... shutting down the world's busiest airport for two hours while the TSA figures out how to test its employees is inexcusable.

I think the gov't should give at least half that amount to DL. You need to be held accountable for your actions, and the gov't was negligent. just my thoughts.......
