Garton Goes to RAH.

Dan has ~30 years in senior airline management, maybe more. He certainly wasn't going to wind up at a bank, energy, healthcare or telecom...

IMHO, the regional feeders have no choice but to consolidate. Whipsawing outsourced feed has its limitations in both pilot recruitment and regional profitability. Garton's move might indicate an interest by RAH in acquiring some competing regionals thereby erecting a firewall to further degradation. A purchase of AAL's wholly-owned Real AE and PSA might be part and parcel of the Garton development.

Dunno. If Bryan Bedford or Jerry Atkin were really interested in acquiring Eagle, they would have done so by now.

I don't see consolidation -- I see attrition...

You've got two strong independents in the large regional space (RAH & Skywest), Mesa is still hanging around in the same space, and then there are two questionably stable independents with Silver and Great Lakes who are playing in the 19-40 seat market.

If there's consolidation, I think it would involve the three smaller independents getting folded into the larger independents.

I don't think it will involve the wholly-owned carriers.

Well, it was either this or move to somewhere that would value his esteemed marketing skills like selling institutional cleaning and toilet paper supplies to correctional institutions.

DP recently said, in essence, that he had bigger fish to fry than to fool around with his wholly-owned regionals --- offering no respite to the relentless climate of uncertainty at Real AE.  At the same time, the new regime, leaving 60 un-assigned 175's in it's back pocket, has just asked AE pilots for further concessions , including an option to turn Real AE into--- in management's own words--- "Comair II". Is this thinking part of the regional "attrition" you write about?  Billions have been spent on regional airport infrastructure to accommodate and attract industry. Do these places go to weeds in order to meet the new found exigencies of three mega-carriers?
