The thread about co-worker stereo types got me thinking about memorable sound bytes from the crack management team at US.You know the ones when you hear them you ask yourself, did they say what I think they said.Everybody has to have at least one or two they remember. So lets share them and have a few yucks.Mine comes from a mis manager who at the time was rather high on the MTC.management ladder. He was making the rounds to the out stations with his dog and pony show for the crisis du jour. While trying to explain how the MTC dept is structured he used a christmas tree analogy. He said quote"think of a christmas tree with a gold star on top, thats me.That string of burned out lighs on the bottom is you guys".Is it any wonder why the company is in the position it is.

My all time favorite came from either Baldanza or Siegel or one of the brightly lit bulbs in their pack of experts when U pulled out of Orange County with load factors in the 80% range:

"A full airplane does not neccesarily mean a profitable airplane."

In a nutshell that is a quote that summarizes the inept and incompetent management that was at U and is still at U. Record load factors and no profit. Then and now.

When a certain large East Coast city was EXPRESSED in 2002, the Station Manager came into the break room to advise the employees of the bad news. "Effective October XX, 2002 US Airways is withrawing service from XX and the ground handling will be taken over by Piedmont. Don't worry, I will be protected with a promotion in a major hub. Good luck to all of you, I don't know how you will survive and keep dispatching the flights ontime untill the changeover." She then retreated to her office never to be seen again.

I believe I have one of the "all-time" bests here. In CLT at a Hangar meeting years ago, I asked Rakesh Gangwal why did US Airways spend over $1 Billion to repurchase Company stock? His response was a classic - "We were afraid that someone might buy us".

Timing is everything.

C'mon guys, where's the most famous quote of the PI, U merger by Mr. L.P.P. himself.

"Southern hospitality is well and good, but we're running an airline here"

From USA Today article...

Ben Baldanza, US Airways' senior marketing executive

"Someone who flies a lot isn't necessarily loyal if what they're doing is buying the lowest-priced ticket every time they fly," he says. "That's not necessarily the kind of loyalty we want to reward. We want to reward those people who pay a premium for the services we offer."

Now that will go down as the all time greatest quote from BBB USAirways senior managment Marketing Guru. "Put foot in mouth; come out with thrush"

Remember, please. We work for liars and thieves. Best to you. Greeter.

Remember, please. We work for liars and thieves.

And all this time I thought the title of that song was "Gypsies, tramps, and thieves."

Speaking of Cher, saw her on tv last night. She's put on some weight.

Just saw this in a new news report and thought I'd add it....

A U.S. Airways spokesperson added that when the media reports on the “Southwest Effectâ€￾ more people start flying.

Public to US: this traffic was available at "O&D poor PIT" for years.

I'm going to laugh if the O&D sets a record next year: 10 LUV flights push the airport beyond the O&D of the 500 flights/day US heyday. What's that say for legacy pricing...
