For Jim Garmon, the sky’s not the limit.
The Tyler resident, who has loved aviation since he was young, has a passion to continue his education at Skyways Aero, Inc., which offers flying lessons out of Cherokee County Airport.
“It’s a side hobby.†Garmon said. “Since I’ve been little I’ve always enjoyed aviation and wanted to fly.â€
“My wife encouraged me and said, ‘if you want to do it, go ahead.’â€
Garmon, who currently is half-way through the program, said he started working toward his private pilot’s license about 10 years ago.
“I didn’t do it for a while,†Garmon said, “and just started back up again. I have a good friend from Tyler who is a pilot, and he spurred me a little bit. I just turned 50, so I thought if I’m going to learn this, I’d better start now.â€
Garmon, who has a student-pilot certificate and currently has 28 hours under his belt in a single engine plane, said he is anxious to continue his flight education.
“When I finishing this training and pass tests, then I’ll get my private pilot license,†he said.
