Southwest employee dies after accident at Dulles

3:45 p.m. Update: Southwest Airlines declined to identify the worker “out of respect to the family,” spokeswoman Brandy King said.

The airline released the following statement:

“On Thursday, Jan. 26, at approximately 7am, a Southwest Employee was involved in a collision between a baggage cart and a mobile lounge at Washington Dulles Airport.

The airline released the following statement:

“On Thursday, Jan. 26, at approximately 7am, a Southwest Employee was involved in a collision between a baggage cart and a mobile lounge at Washington Dulles Airport.

I finished my trip yesterday with an IAD turn. Since SW took over our ramp handling duties, I've been there numerous times and received nothing but professional service. God bless and rest in peace.

Very tragic news yesterday. I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Jared.
My thoughts and prayers are with Jared's family, friends and coworkers.

I found this posted on facebook by an airline employee. So sad for a young man to lost to such a bad accident. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

So I see the pic - but it doesn't really show what happened?? Surely the guy wasn't in the cart that looks like it was hit by the lounge? Don't understand how he could have been driving the tug pulling the carts in the pic and gotten killed???
Our company is telling us nothing - we would really like to hear what caused the accident and what actually happened if anyone has that info other then what the news reports are...
