Facility Mechanics

US does not, unless they still have them in the hubs. NW would have lost theirs in the AMFA strike, but I don't recall what DL did pre or during the merger.

I beleive this guy is talking about the guys at AA that run about turning on the belts in the bag rooms, painting hallways, putting in new light bulbs, things like that.

Well about two years ago I overheard a conversation between two people on a cell phone. The guy on my end says he's going to see the manager Joe at JFK because AA was turning over a part of facilities maintenance namely the jetways ( jetbridges ) to another company.

Now that outsourcing has been move to the front burner, anything goes...including your job...

Just curious; are we talking facilities (as in boiler techs, carpenters, electricians, etc.), or people who maintain ground equipment? I ask because the terms are often used interchangeably. At NW, "plant maintenance" encompassed both.

DL has ground equipment techs, but afaik, does not have any significant number of people actually working on fixed structures (buildings, etc.).

Kev, Any idea what cities the GSE mechanics are in for Delta?

ATL & CVG for sure. Fairly certain MSP & DTW still have something. LAX & TPA as well. Not sure where else- I can't access the list from home.

Apparently, they're also hiring for one in CMH. Message me if you want any info.

just curious, why they would not have been part of the craft or class to begin with?

It was my understanding that they where non-union at the time of the switch from teamsters to AMFA and the company did not seek to include them in the count but thats just what I heard from a mechanic that works there I have not sought to confirm thru AMFA

I am referring to plumber, electricians ect and maintaining the bag belt systems

Delta has used an outside company for many years now @ TechOps, for facility maintenance , i.e. building, plumbing, painting...............and they do a great job !
