FAA - Flightcrew Member Duty and Rest Requirements

I did not see a thread on this yet. What does the community here think? I know this was a big objective of Randy Babbit and the NTSB Chair Deborah Hershmann.

Flightcrew Member Duty and Rest Requirements

I see cargo carriers are exempt. Is it less fatiguing to fly a 747-400F carrying containers than a 747-400 carrying pax?

Or to put it another way what will be the difference if a fatigued cargo crew hits a full airliner or a fatigued airline crew hits a cargo jet. Also the ATA claims the rule is complicated to implement and costly but the key word is costly. If the new rules were to save a couple of bucks I bet the industry would have them implemented within days if not hours. With the new rules a lot more transoceanic flights will be operated with 2 pilots. There should be no etops flights without a 3rd crewmember. There are obvious reasons why there should be a 3rd crewmember but one of the most important reasons can't even be mentioned due to security. So a rule that was so important to change will take at least 2 years to implement and will accomplish no more than urinating in a wet suit........it will give someone a warm feeling. The good news for me is I'll be out of this next Dec. 16th. I guess 39 yrs and 8 months is long enough to work for the same company. When I went through the document it was 314 pages of govt. doublespeak BS. There were only a few substantive pages. No wonder this country is so messed up.

Please pass the tylenol and....Merry Christmas

This is what makes this thing so stupid.. The FAA is just as strict on MX at cargo companies maybe even worse. But the pilots get a pass?? No again its all about the money and safety be damned. I don't care what anyone says..You know as well as I do Tech that when we went out at NWA the FAA turned a blind eye to what was happening there cuz they were bought and paid for by NWA as was the media. It was so blatant but you will never convince the general public of that. The FAA has changed since 2005. It actually is being more aggressive (wish it was in 2005). But the lobby by FX and UPS will let them by a pass on this one...Like others have said cargo guys may not carry any passengers but they can still run into a plane with a lot of passengers or drive their 747-400 into a neighborhood. If they deem that the pax airline pilots need more rest rules it needs to be across the board just like maintenance is.
