ex us mgmt

He used that same strategy at U....all the BK's and givebacks....people were always talking about us
He's doing exactly what Ryanair does in Europe....advertise unbelievable low fares...offer the fare on select flights that can only be booked on the internet. Limit the seats at that price and you have people booking at higher fares thinking it's the cheapest airline. Charge for all the extras.

Nothing new....Michael Leary has been doing it for years.

Wouldn't this mean that we are not paying the lowest among US based carriers.

What is their labor situation like?

Seems you've figured it out!!! Seat pitch is the same or larger and you can buy as much service as you're willing to pay for! OR NOT.

Contrast that to US in the marketplace.

You guys"beeched and moaned"when your beloved coat closets were removed. I could just hear "the howls of protest" go up when you have to spring for the cost of a Coke that you used to get for free. <_< USAir "is what it is" in the marketplace because its hands were tied behind their back years ago by over-reaching unions and overly demanding frequent flyers. Now both groups are paying a most terrible price.

Wouldn't the cost of a Coke (and other amenities) be offset by the lower ticket cost? If I was getting a lower fare, I wouldn't mind paying a la carte for what I really want.

I guess the biggest problem for me would be the schedule frequency. If the flight cancels, how soon can they get me to the destination? Many people don't have the flexibility to arrive a day (or days) later. For those that do, these pay-as-you go airlines might be a good alternative.

On a side note, I was making smalltalk with a client and was commenting on their computer desktop picture. They mentioned to me that it was from their trip to Hawaii, and that reminded them of the need to use their $400 vouchers on America West Airlines. I asked why did they get their vouchers, and she said it was because the flight was supposed to leave on a Saturday and didn't leave until Tuesday.

The real question is who can you find to TRUST to run US. Who would you fire? Who would you hire?

It's a shame you employees who work for U could not vote for who you wished was your CEO and upper managment staff.

If you say so :p I don't see Frequent Flyers or employees as being overly demanding. CO's profit Q1 was accomplished with higher wages, higher profit sharing percentage, More F/C seats ergo more ugrades, better service inflight in Y or F and when you compare DOT performance stats well..... there is no comparrision :D

Which most likely means that CO is a BETTER MANAGED enterprise. We certainly can draw that conclusion, since the above can be factually PROVEN and your assumptions CAN'T.

You are the weakest link Good BYE

Gee.sorry ,Whiney.I forgot to consult with the "Airline Expert" from Southern Jersey

Gee, that sounds like the makings for a new reality show that's the opposite of The Apprentice. The winner would have to the support of all the unions and workgroups. Perhaps we call it "Who's the Boss?"

I would tend to agree with you regarding the management but one can not overlook the differences in route structure. CO has a lot of international long haul which seems to be where the revenue is these days. The domestic airline revenue is weakening the same as the dollar and it's starting to show in the earnings.

speaking of who should run the company.. there arent many left out there.. Wolf gave us a new image.. business like uniforms. upgraded inflight service. great international destinations. we had won aviation awards then. but he of course liked money.. UA had warned us about him. i dont now. I remember reading that Bruce Lakefield who is our vice chairman had said at the court presiding over the the retirement employees losing benefits and they were not happy.. and he said. I wish i had never taken this job.. sounds like he cared. He didnt need the job im sure and continues with us. he did do what he could to save the company.. it was printed in many newspapers during our BK2
