Continental Airlines Announces Daily Non-Stop Service Between New Delhi and New York
First Scheduled Non-Stop Between India and the U.S.A.

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, April 06, 2005 -- (Business Wire India)
Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL), the world's sixth largest airline and OAG Airline of the Year 2004, today announced it will launch daily non-stop flights between New Delhi and New York/Newark effective November 1, 2005 (westbound), subject to government approval.

Delhi is a great idea nonstop, it should have been done by some one 20 years ago. I'm mystified by why CAl is going to DEhli, the capitol and not Mumbai, the Financial center; the New York of India? Mumbai, flying investment bankers, would make more sense then flying politicians to Dehli. I hope it works out for CAL. Buenos Aires would be a good addition too. Osaka, Seoul, Cape Town...just a few on the wishlist.

There is a new airline in India I understand planning to do Mumbai-NY, that will be a LCC so maybe that scared CO away.

Jet Airways in India could be the airline Whadayano is referring to. With the recent open skies agreement between India and the UK Jet Airways will be flying to London. It can only be a short time it comes to the USA. If I were Air India I would be very concerned, its a dinosaur surrounded by Singapore and Emirates.

As far as Continental goes, I think its great India finally get a nonstop link to Newark. I just wonder where all the extra 777's are coming from? Newark - Peking, and now to India, is there a extra few planes CAL is getting somewhere or are they from the existing fleet? CAL avn't wait foue years for teh 787, they need more airplanes now, forget more 737's or 757's we need about 6 777's yesterday.

Continental Airlines announced that it has formally submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Transportation to operate nonstop flights from its hub at Newark to Shanghai, China. If approved, Continental will introduce flights in March 2007 and will use the Boeing 777 aircraft.

Is CAL trying to double dip at AA expense? If they are trying to snag AA award to Shanghai in April 2006, I would worry first about getting my first flight to Beijing this year.
