"US Airways has created an unprecedented opportunity for travelers looking to qualify for the next tier of Preferred status," says Travis Christ, vice president, sales and marketing. "Through the end of the year, we're making it possible to accrue miles with or without flying. Hotel stays, car rentals, even by sending flowers, you can earn miles -- in this promotion, Everything Counts!"

With Everything Counts, there are over 50 partners through which Preferred qualifying miles may be earned. In addition to miles from US Airways and Star Alliance(tm) member airlines, select partners such as hotels, car rentals, and more have joined together to enhance this unique opportunity. Additionally, members who sign up for a US Airways Premier World MasterCard or Signature Visa card and charge more than $25,000 in net purchases during the calendar year will continue to enjoy the exclusive benefit of having 10,000 base miles converted to Preferred miles. For all participating partners, as well as more information on the Everything Counts promotion*, visit usairways.com/everythingcounts.

sounds like they may be concerned about losing preferred members
Yup. This is unprecidented. But if I were a preferred member now, or if I had worked hard up to this point to earn preferred status, I'd be ticked off big time. It will also dilute next year's preferred pool.

Interesting response (maybe?) to UAL's promo by which you pay $599 now and then get double EQMs for several weeks this fall. Helps supercharge those who are a long way from 1K (one well-planned SIN trip can easily yield 25k eqms, which this promo doubles to 50k eqms).

yup, remember all the flack we got about rollover last year and their mantra: THERE ARE TOO MANY CHAIRMANS. Hmmm...what are they doing now? Maybe are now realizing that they don't have enough elites.

Well, UA doesn't give away 1K status...but it seems that despite the NEW US's position of not giving away status, they see that they need to do something to gather elites...they ticked them off so much this year already and are hoping that this last quarter keeps them traveling...too bad none of the promotions really entice anyone to fly US but rather spend money on partners in the program.

I have to tell you, as a CP for 2006 I am a little ticked. I currently have 84 segments for year and 56K preferred miles. I am not sure if I am going to make CP for 2007 since they bumped it up to 120 segments. Sinc emost of my flights are day trips to places like BNA, CMH, CLE, CLT etc... I am not going to hit status with miles. Since I do not stay overnight most of the time, this promotion does me no good!!!

I average about $500-600 per flight on US, and am busting my a@@ to make CP. this now allows for the guy who doesnt fly alot but rents cars almost everyday and sleeps in hotels to now have the oppertunity to pass me. There are plenty of business travelers out there who drive everywhere, and barly get their a@@ in a plane who could make this.

I am not trying to be the 'all important' traveler you hear about everyday. Since most of my flight are regional jets, I dont get upgraded alot. the one thing I do like is nowing if my day has ended early or I know there is going to be weather delays in PHL then I can walk up and if there is a seat, I am on the earlier or later flight.

I will most likly max out at 100-105 segments for the year but only puts me a plat status (which is still good dont get me wrong as I ma not complianing) :)

I thought this was a loyality program for US and Star Alliance members? It doesnt seem they stayed loyal to the people who hung un there year after year keeping their A@@'s in USairs seats.

My .02

Although this promo won't do me any good (since I'll re-qualify with BIS miles), I'm glad to see Tempe has thrown us a bone!

Haven't read ALL of the details yet but this looks like a very nice promotion going into Q4.

As for US "Ticking Off Elites", this is a very nice "Make Good"

To our friends in Tempe I say "Go Forth and Sin No More"

Let's all hope that this is the beginning of a more customer focused approach.

Sorry PB but I have to agree with ANT. I've busted my big fat hairy A$$ to remain a CP this year for next. And NOW they want to make it easy for those that don't fly all the time? NOT FAIR!!

Like ANT I'm at 84 segments for this year so far. I won't make 120 segments this year. For the past 5 years I've consistently had between 110-147 segments. Which was great for the "ROLL OVER" promotion.

They took the roll over away and now they want to give preferred away........AGAIN!!

Right, after beating us over the head that you need to EARN CP...guess they figured out that many CP's decided to earn elsewhere. And, of course, this promotion costs them NOTHING since they get paid for the miles by the partner.

"We will keep the BEST of both FF programs"...uh, sorry, we lied..

"There are too many CP's and we will no longer run elite promotions like rollover"...uh, sorry, we lied

"Glassware is coming"...uh, sorry, we lied...oh, no we didn't, it's coming...sooner or later

"The website works fine"...uh, sorry, we lied...it sucks

"We know that upgrades are important to our elites so we make our program the richest for upgrades"...uh, sorry, we lied, we are going to reduce the size of our FC cabins

"This was a merger"...uh, sorry, we bought your sorry a$$e$

YEAH!! while BONING the ELTIES that have remained through all the turmoil!!

There had better be some serious A$$ kissing to those of us that stayed. I'm emailing Mr. Travis Christ ASAP.

I reached 101,000 miles in April and have yet to look back. I've been flying NW ever since and am about to renew Platinum. In years prior to 2005, US got all of my business, but now there's no incentive.

I don't like the fact here that everyone is carping over the details.

Right, Right, who cares about the details....now that we've lost our rollover and have been given empty promises for a year now, I am supposed to get excited about this promotion which is essentially meaningless to me? I've qualified for CP next year on miles.

After how many months of being told that there are TOO MANY CP's, they add this program in the last quarter to get more people to gain elite status? They are reducing the size of FC cabins but making a push to get more elites? This promotion costs them NOTHING.

I have seen B and Y fares dramatically increase over the past few months. I can buy a discounted and restricted FC ticket for about 1/2 the price of a B and Y fare these days. The way that US does upgrades, with the push on elites, this means that with more elites in the pool, I will have a tougher time upgrading on even a B or Y fare. It's already difficult in some markets on short notice.

Also, every carrier gives bonus elite miles for buying B and Y fares...everyone but US. So, someone who buys a discounted and restricted F ticket gets bonus elite miles, but even though my ticket is double the price, I get no bonus elite miles...even if I am stuck in Y. It doesn't make sense.

Let's see them give us, particularly US1's, something more meaningful.

That's horrible. Where the heck did you fly? Was it a few Asia trips on UA?

And, I still bet that NW will be US so you may be back on US anyway.

As a person who will probably on make CP on segments only this year, and who commited more flying to US to make the CP I am quite upset about openning this up to others.

This year, I have NOT been up-graded more times, than the last five years combined. My flying habits and purchasing habits have not changed one bit. It is how US change its up-grade policy. I purchase my ticket the day of, or the day before a flight, and when the web sates that first is sold out, I book with another carrier. I don't know if it is a web problem or not, I just book with some one else since it is telling me there is no chance of an up-grade.

I fly and travel too much, the points are secondary, I look for the up-grades, and if US dosen't deliver I'll go some place else. I have upper status with other airlines.

It appears they are deluting the pool even further, making the product cheaper, it give less reason to give them my full Y fare.

I'll hang in until the end of the year, and make my decisions in early january.

If they do combine with NW will they have a "Super CP" since I am platinum with NW alreadY?
