I don't know about you but I really didn't hear "how AA plans to compete against the competitors" besides employee givebacks, layoffs and terminated pensions???

I guess Bob Owens has been right all along......Nothing will change at American Airlines, except our pay! AGAIN!!

Didn't the union propose savings thru layoffs back in 2003. It took AA 9 years to figure it out. Too bad the same management team will run this airline going forward. I don't see much change, do you?????

Don't worry, Mr. Little is fighting like hell. The news stations cut him off during the live interview....blah blah blah....good luck to all.

Their plan is to lower their cost to better compete with other airlines without rising prices on customers. AA will be in the same spot in a few year again because all the airline done it many times. US government should let airline have a small monpoloy because without that no price control to cover cost.

The twu passed out a questionaire, as I recall, the answers to said were supposed to have directed the "negotiators" as to working towards layoffs to acheive management's goals or pay/benefit cuts. We were told the majority voted to take a cut in pay - the twu counted the votes. This is what I remember but I could be mistaken.

I'm quite certain if the same group counts the votes, we'll be taking a greater cut in pay to maintain employment levels - again.

Time: Is American the worst managed U.S. airline?

American was the last of the majors to file for bankruptcy —some have gone through the Chapter 11 bath twice —but it’s a standout for another reason. Over the long term, it has arguably been the worst-managed major airline —perhaps the worst-managed service company —that’s still in business. Over the past decade American has lost some $11 billion, which is about 15% of the industry’s total losses over the history of the entire industry. That’s quite an accomplishment.

AA is an airline that always seems to be mad at someone: employees, competitors, passengers, governments, OPEC. The company has been at war with its unions for years. Granted, the TWU is a rough crew, and the pilots are no picnic either. But both groups already negotiated givebacks and the TWU was on the verge of coughing up some more. Blaming the unions, which is basically what management is doing, misses the point. As a very smart CEO of a unionized company said to me years ago: “If you aren’t getting along with your union workforce, don’t call it a labor problem because it’s not. It’s a management problem.” And American has managed its workforce badly for years.

"USAirways is reportedly giving American a sniff. If US Airways thinks you’re under managed, you’ve pretty much proved you couldn’t run a rental car shuttle, never mind an airline"

WAM!! How's that for some throw-down?!
