Dreamliner Set to Land at American Airlines

The range of the -9 certainly opens up some doors, like ORD-SIN, ORD-JNB, MIA-SYD, & LAX-LOS.

From LAX, the only markets out of range are South Africa, which are well within the range of the east coast hubs.

More importantly, all of Africa and India are opened up from all three of those locations.

It doesn't mean that service to all continents is justified, but range no longer becomes a consideration.

Why the Big Deal over this "Wonder Plane", when the 777-200 LR  'worldliner' has been able to connect  ANY(like in ANY)
two city pairs on the planet  ????????
 
Wont happen for a while. New aircraft with new crews needs to do proving runs.
All these different types of aircraft coming on the fleet is going to create a nightmare.
From a Aircraft maintenance standpoint it is going to suck big time. More schooling, more quals to maintain, more crap to keep up on. I was told by one of our training instructors that AA is going to cut back on QA, give the short version on the gen fams, integrate or in other words eliminate the separate avionics department. With all these new aircraft coming on board we really need to improve our way of maintaining a wide range of diverse fleet.
This is not the way to do it. This may look pretty from looking out the window at the terminal but behind the scenes it sucks.
 
The only limitation will be the crew duty day. The new FAR 117 will limit time in the cockpit to 19 hours. DFW-HKG just under the limit by a couple of hours..

Throw in strong headwinds, ground stoppage or any unseen issue and then what? Throw in another backup crew? Cancellation? 19 hours is one hell of a long time.
