American Airlines passengers may soon enjoy more connections to China. Dragonair -- a wholly owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific Airways -- will officially join the Oneworld alliance starting Nov. 1. Hong Kong-based Dragonair serves 19 key destinations in China, with some 400 flights a week.
Twelve of those will be new to the Oneworld network - Chongqing, Changsha, Chengdu, Fuzhou, Haikou, Kunming, Guilin, Ningbo, Nanjing, Shenyang, Sanya and Wuhan. Dragonair will also expand the alliance's service to other parts of Asia, adding flights to Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia) and Phuket (Thailand).
The carrier also offers service to Pnom Penh, Cambodia -- marking the first Cambodia service by a Oneworld partner airline. It will be the 11th carrier to board Oneworld this year, in the alliance's biggest expansion programme since its launch. Japan Airlines and five of its affiliates, Malév Hungarian Airlines and Royal Jordanian Airlines all joined on 1 April, along with affiliates LAN Argentina and LAN Ecuador.
