Nice to see AA adding DFW-Pensacola service.4 flights a day starting Oct. 1.

I do beleive that it is AE. Almost 3hrs in a toy airplane is a bit long.....
There should be a Law anything over 1 and 1/2 hrs should be full size, ie at least 100 seats.

DFW-PNS is about 2 hours.

Honestly though, this is how the RJ's should be used. To seek out new routes and raid other airlines territory. PNS is traditionally DL territory, but I think AMR knows that DL's DFW hub is dying. So they are taking advantage of that fact and raiding the market.

If AMR brought in MD80's into this market to start, they'd hemorrhage cash. In time, if the market responds to AMR's service, they can then begin upgrading the route. PNS does support mainline from other carriers (Airtran, Delta, USAirways) so in time it may be able to support AMR mainline. But you have to give the market time to develop. AMR has little name recognition in this part of the Deep South.

It's not about "seeking new routes" or raiding or weak airlines terrority (Using this language with AA conjours up the image of John Belushi as the Captain of the "Raging Queen" sailing the seas looking for "swarthy" type men), it's about mitigating the crap high DOC of the RJ's due to low daily utilization in AA's hub structure.

The F100 had this problem before it got longers legs on it. It may have been scheduled from 7:00am-11pm daily but only flew less than 7 hours of hard time each day.

The F100 was somewhat tolerable on the longer legs. Any current RJ is an ordeal for that long. The EMB-190 might be a different story, but then again, it isn't an RJ.

IIRC, didn't DL use MD80s out of PNS, or may be they still do, don't know for sure, but I do seem to remember that 1 of their 80s had a turbine failure out of PNS and it killed a pax and injured her son.

Yes, DL flies MD88's from PNS to ATL (8x daily). You are correct about the accident too...happened back in 1996 and sadly killed two passengers.
