To further strengthen its international route network and provide customers with new service to Europe, United Airlines will launch nonstop passenger and cargo service between Denver and London Heathrow on March 30, 2008. With this new service, United's Denver hub will now serve as a gateway to Europe and customers can now fly nonstop to London Heathrow from any of United's five hubs located across the U.S.

I think someone posted earlier in the year That UAL was not using all of there slots. They had some leased to other carriers.

UA leases LHR slots to Air Canada and Jet Airways (India). I also heard rumor they were leasing a few to AA, as well.

I know that UAL doesn't utilize their LHR slots as well as they should, this is good news, curious to see if it will be profitable.. I wonder what the O&D traffic is? I would have guessed FRA before LHR though. Good news though, Very good news.

One question I have is: how many load seats will UA have to block during warm weather on this flight?

Post Bankruptcy United made a decision to only fly to international destinations from their hubs, no more JFK to LHR or Tokyo flights. All their service to LHR was moved to IAD, LAX, ORD & SFO until now with the Open Skies agreement allowing Denver to LHR.

It's a 777, not an RJ. The B's are more than able to fly DEN to LHR without a penalty in payload. But that does not make you guys happy does it? Better to spin it in a negative manner than to realize that the airplane can make the trip.

United flew from ORD (3x) LAX (2x) IAD (3x) SFO (3x) JFK (3x) EWR (1x) BOS (1x) DEL (1x). That was 17 flights per day. Aslo, I'm sure with the open skies agreement, I'm sure LH or BD (British Midland?) would be more than willing to 'sell' a slot or two to United to increase their value at LHR. Also, didn't UA get all PanAm routes, including beyond London? But I think IIRC UA sold the beyond slots to LH as part of the concessions to obtain EU approval of the code-share.

Corrections?

16 LHR-IAD Flt001, 1250 1535 747
17 LHR-IAD Flt925, 1640 1930 777

So any way you dice it, I'm sure if UA wants more service to LHR they will have greater ease than about any other US Based carrier with the exception of AA. JMO
