CWA'ers propose to management that res subcontracting be immediately halted...
CWA'ers have sent a proposal to US Airways management calling on them to stop res contracting immediately in light of the fact that America West does not subcontract res work. To have one side of the new airline subcontracting, while the other does not, will lead to divisions in the workforce as well as undermine the job security of US Airways employees.
There will be an incentive for management to subcontract the work of the higher paid employees (US Airways) unless all subcontracting is halted.
The proposal also points out that subcontracting res work to inexperienced, non-airline companies has lead to a drastic drop in professional customer service and an increase in customer complaints.
Here's the proposal sent by CWA today - it will be discussed at a meeting with management next Thursday:
CWA calls on US Airways management to halt res subcontracting immediately and calls on executives of the merged airline to establish a common policy against such subcontracting.
America West management continues to hire res agents at a rapid pace. US Airways management continues to outsource res work. Both work groups will be merged some time in the near to mid-future. It is illogical to continue to reduce US Airways res reps through attrition while hiring America West agents. It disadvantages and discriminates against US Airways employees for our US Airways management to insist on subcontracting res when America West management has a policy of no res subcontracting:
Continued res subcontracting diminishes employment, advancement, and overtime opportunities at US Airways at the same time America West employment and advancement opportunities are being increased; It removes desirable work assignments from the US Airways workgroup while keeping those assignments in the America West workgroup;
The practice of subcontracting res no longer has a business motivation or logic now that the executives of America West are in control, and they currently have a policy of not to subcontract their own res operations.
CWA proposes that US Airways management halt res subcontracting immediately, bring subcontracted work back in-house, implement the Work-at-Home program, and refrain from subcontracting until executives of the merged US Airways/America West airline establish a common policy against such subcontracting.
