Presently PIT has 225 Mainline/Express flights which will drop to 210 in September and just announced Thursday...... Houston will be dropped in October leaving 208 flights.
Word is the November schedule is going to show more flight cuts.

I hear that HP loves the facility in Pittsburgh, and will add some east-west traffic in Pit after October 1.If you look at the originating traffic numbers,Pittsburgh compares very favorably to Charlotte.

Heard the same thing. Managers and directors who visited really liked PIT. Hope they try a marketing campaign to the tune of, "We promise not to rape the people of Pittsburgh anymore."

Word from PIT Inflight is that everything in PIT (cuts) is on hold until at least February 2006.

This would be good news. Kudos to AWA management for seeing reality here. CCY was too far up Rendell's anal area for PHL expansion to realize the mistakes they made in PIT.

I'm sitting here in the PIT food court on a productivity break. Went to put my bags in the
storage room on B. Sign on the door says that AW will be moving into gates B31-33 on Oct 1 so room is closed to put AW office there.

Things are moving fast  .

I don't see how they're going to do that.

They're returning a pile of planes. It won't matter in September and October due to the seasonal pulldown in capacity systemwide. But *something* needs to be cut in November, beyond the pulldowns in transcon and Florida flying.

Cuts in PIT will be way before Feb. 2006. Union rep informed us this afternoon that the company is planning a major cut in PIT over the next 3 months.
Originaly only 14 jobs were to be lost but word is the September bid is on hold as the company tallies up the workforce reduction.
45 aircraft including Airbus and Boeings are going to the desert or lessor by the end of January. We stripped 5 737's over the past 2 weeks alone that are going into mothballs.
With the possibility of losing the EMB work PIT could lose another 10 to 15 flights.
Last Novemeber PIT saw a huge reduction as hub status was lost and it appears another repeat is on the horizon for this November.

that is so sad to see what once was a beautiful hub now gone in ruins due a ruining mgmt team. those AWA mgmt team sure needs to take over and fast!

It is a nice terminal but I wouldn't blame it all on management.

PIT is really too far north to be a north-south hub and too far east to be an east-west hub.
It used to be ok when props and short range jets needed to stop somewhere but now everything goes longer ranges.

It's more about geography than being a "nice terminal".

thats true but they I would think could of used it as say a hub to the midwest and the west to an extent.

Let's not forget HP had a hub of sorts in CMH which they shutdown entirely. I wouldn't expect PIT to stick around. The economics of PIT can't be that much different than the economics of CMH.

I just have a quick question..if U is getting rid of a/c and AW has (how many? A/C) and they are still getting more airbus orders and the 28 EMB's may stay within U and be put on mainline(finally where they belong) then how many a/c does that actually equal to that we (the NEW USAIRWAYS) is losing??? Anyone have a number???? Just curious..
