Employess at the Syracuse USAirways Club were told
today "the club is closing effective 12/3/04.

7 full time employees are affected, not sure what there options
are......

It is sad for the employees but the SYR club should have closed years ago.
There is no longer enough O & D to support as there once was with the Empire Mini Hub

The MCO club closed after the hurricanes and wont be reopened. Everyone got severance and see ya. Guess there arent that many business people into Orlando unless they have the kids in tow to go see Mickey.
I wouldnt be at all surprised to see the clubs systemwide (with possibly the hubs as the exception) contracted out as soon as the new contract is voted in or thrust upon us. They wont want to pay someone topped out to sit in the club anymore when they can hire Host/Evergreen/ASI to do it for minimum wage and no bennies. Good luck to all the club reps.

I am sad to see ANY club closed. However I can understand Syracuse-it has not been that busy of late.

Regarding MCO, we were originally told it would be reopened after repairs. When did this change? If true, I will move all my MCO business to TPA--Tad here I come :)

My best to you all....

I as well received an email that the club would be reopened but it would be secondary to repairing the heavily damaged terminal. If I remember correctly I thought it did give the impression of months such as 1st quarter 2005

That sucks for the employees, sry to hear it. I Knew some there. Nice people...

I know they always wondered when this call would come.

It is sad, but many of the smaller cities Clubs do not generate enough of a return, yet is is an important function. I would hope that with the United Code Share that it might be possible to retain this for our best customers by consolidation.

Another option I have seen is a Airport Club, not an Airline specific one, in which the Airport maintains a special flyer's lounge for all of the Carriers to use, and is able to keep the costs down for the airlines while still providing this service to thier best customers.

Anyways, it is a shame to see this happen, Good luck to those emplyees in SYR, ROC, and BUF.

Let me add my thoughts for those employees in these clubs. I hope the future is brighter for you tomorrow. I have always found when one door closes another one opens up.

It sounds like this is not going to be all of them. Somebody please tell me GSO is not on this list.

That would be shame about MCO. It always seems like everyone just focusing on MCO and Mickey Mouse, but in my business we attend at least 3 or 4 convetions/trade shows in MCO each year and sometimes more.

There are times it seems I go to MCO every week or two and never get anywhere near an amusement park.

Running 757 without minimal first class and now no club, gives me little reason to use U going to MCO anymore.

Do we know if it is offically not going to reopen. The website still has the closed indefintely. But then again the website is well "the website"

Interesting, in hindsight, that US closed the LAX club. Weren't there rumors that HP wanted to "take it over"? Why was this club closed to begin with? How will this merger effect the LAX move from T-1?

Yes I am sure U will be staying in Terminal One now at LAX, and I am sure that will make WN really happy. Since U's gates have some down time in the afternoon when there are no U flights perhaps that will allow HP to expand a little in LAX and use these gates ! On a side note a friend flew out of T1 last month mid day and the security lines where so long that TSA took the last 100 or so in line, walked them over to T2, screened them, then down to T2 gates followed by a bus ramp transfer to T1. My friend believed if they had not done that he would not have made his flight and he got their 90 mins plus before departure ! Does anyone know is this a regular plan ? While somewhat inconvienant it is also a very creative idea on the TSA or somebodies part !
