Chip... US Airways Website Question

Chip,

Do you know why, when doing a flight search on the US Airways website, after entering the criteria and pressing the search button, there is a sub-window beneath the available U flights called Comet Travel Search which gives several lower-priced flight alternatives on competing airlines (CAL came in at less than half the price!). Why is U now advertising lower priced options on other airlines?

Itrade is correct. It sounds like a spyware issue, the uglystepsister to spam. Downloads.com has a program called "adaware" you can download for free and get rid of that stuff. If you use stuff like Kazaa or Mozilla, it comes bundled with spyware. A company recently took Gator to court over putting up competitors ad when you went to their website, for the accompanying loss of business.

Attention management: Sue the guys that are letting this happen to the US website. Revenue is going out the window. Remember one of the key restructuring points, "Defend the franchise!"

There are lots of good software out there to help you clean spyware and adware off your system. The two I use were recommeded by the system admins of the online gaming company I freelance for; even better, both have "freeware" versions (but donations are very much appreciated). Spybot seems more thorough to me, although Ad-aware has a 6.0 release that I haven''t upgraded to yet. Ad-aware is a little more user-friendly for folks who aren''t all that interested in, or fascinated by, how their computer works.

Ad-aware http://www.lavasoft.nu/index.html

I run a check on my system using both of these at least once a week. You''d be AMAZED at the crap that your computer will pick up on the internet. Also, bear in mind that even if you aren''t concerned about the security/privacy issues involved, eventually you''ll gather so much garbage on your harddrive, that your system will run noticeably slower. Some spyware programs conflict with various WinXX programs, and will cause all sorts of problems from hanging and crashing to downright interferring with legitimate program function.

Lastly... if you''re not running a virus-scanner in the background and a personal firewall, it''s never too late to get one. Norton has an excellent suite that is simple to use, and simple to keep updated. You can check out their site at www.symantec.com as well as purchase their products off the shelf. Staples, Office Max, Best Buy -- all the usual places carry their stuff.
