It's always nice to have options. When they reach the contractual limit of 465, they can revisit the business environment. That will be several years in the future, where the entire socio-geo-politcal-global-economical environment could be completely different (for the better or worst)

If the airline is succeeding financially and has proven that it can operate a profitable business with RJ's and Airbi, then it would be in the best interest of both ALPA and management to renegotiate to allow more RJ's into the clause - especially if it will bring back more furloughs(if there are any left at that point). Of course, if the business enviornment is healthy, it might be an opportunity to bring on more larger jets, too. Like exercising the A330-200 options(or were those firm orders?)

Sorry all, I think this might have posted a couple of times by mistake, but here is the real one.

Chip,

Since MDA will be a division of Mainline instead of a WO, do the scope restrictions of 465 RJs apply to MDA. The reason I ask is when you look at the orders and options they total more than 465 by exactly 85 planes.

170 Firm + 380 Options = 550 - MDA''s 85 = 465 total RJ''s

Now of course I realize that Group doesn''t have to exercise the options but if they did would''nt it be more than allowed by scope unless MDA does''nt have to adhere to the scope clause?

Can you fill me in alittle bit as to how the restrictions in place will work?

Bored:

I am researching the short and long-term fleet plan as we type, I am discussing this issue with sources, and I will post a new thread that will answer your questions probably late tonight. Once a few of my questions are answered, I will complete the column.

Best regards,

Chip
