B7e7 For Nw?

I have been hearing several rumors that NW is very interested in the 7E7. You know how rumors go...they come and they go, but this rumor in particular seems to have some mileage. Might seem like a strange purchase since NW is currently in the process of bringing the A330 into the fleet. But from what I understand, the huge fuel savings and the dramatic increase in range of the 7E7 over the A330 could make it economically feasible. Anyone else hear anything similiar? Probably just a rumor that needs to be put to bed. Would be a great aircraft for NW though.

There are many airlines operating A330/340 & 777's. Air France, Cathay Pacific, Singapore & Thai among them. A330 can't fly from Dtw to NRT, NGO or KIX: 7E7 CAN! NW should have it.

Night, night....Seriously, I hadn't heard that one. Interesting.....

The B7E7 is still way out there. The more logical choice would be the A340. That aircraft can fly DTW to NRT etc. and is common rated with the A330 and is immediately available.

NW will eventually get the 7E7, once they can purchase some cheap used models in 2030.... :D
Are you talking about aircraft like 747-400, 757-200, 757-300, A319, A320, A330-300, A330-200. Certainly not cheap used models by any standards, and all I believe were purchased new!

Also NW was the world-wide launch customer for the 747-400.

Oh lighten up, I know that NW doesn't only fly DC9s and 10s... and I think the 7E7 would be great for NW.

Weren't they also the (US) launch customer for the A320?
I believe NW was the first US 320 operator in 1989, at least by a few months.
Pan Am was to have been the first, but by '89 they were in their death spiral and financially unable to take delivery, so their order went to Braniff (II). Shortly after BN started 320 operations they too went belly up, and so those planes wound up with America West.
IIRC, NW started 320 ops in the spring of '89, with BN following in early summer.

We might not fly the "9" exclusively, but we sure fly it a lot! If you ever want to tak a trip down memory lane, stop by your nearest NW line station; at mine we have ground equipment with Air West & Hughes Air west identifier plates, and if you look real close, you can see the paint scheme(s) of old.

Given these days of low interest rates & Airbus's always over eagerness to make a deal why doesn't NW order a Queen Mary II full of A319/ 318, a 100 sounds good. NW should finally standardize the whole narrow body fleet. I would buy all the used 744 with P&W wngines they can get, SIA & UA have a few for sale.

I would agree with this in principle. The only question is how does the A321 compare to the 757 as far as range/payload are concerned?
Aircraft Range PAX Payload

A321-200 3,500 mi 195 (1 Class) 1,828 ft3 Bulk only
185 (2 Class) 1,478 ft3 LD3 & Bulk (10 LD3-46 + Bulk)

B757-200 4,498 mi 228 (1 Class) 1,670 ft3 Bulk only
200 (2 Class)

The B757 can't load any type of contianers. The A319/320/321 can load LD3-46 containers. This gives the A321 an advantage regarding Cargo Baggage etc.

I also think it would be better to compare the A321 to the B737-900 or B737-800. They are more in the same class of aircraft.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!
I would much rather fly on a 38 year old "9" than those crappy Airbi.
I have just completed 6 trips on NW and all were on 9's -- including three trips on DC-9-10's. Every trip was flawless...out of the gate on time and in on time.
I wish the da** Airbus was that reliable!!

Long Live the 9's!!!!!

....and thank you NW for keeping the little buzzards going.

:)
