Here's another article from Tampa, FL which discusses jetBlue's expansion plans. Buried down near the bottom of the article is a comment about jetblue expanding its home base in NYC beyond JFK. Here's the quote:

" JetBlue has grown by focusing much of its service at New York City's JFK International Airport, including six daily flights from Tampa. Now its expansion strategy may include serving other airports around New York City."

In addition, as of Oct 30th jetBlue is now the largest carrier flying out of JFK with 6.8 million passengers boarded. AA is now just behind with 6.7 million passengers.

no space in lga for jetblue. besides they have all the space they need in jfk. greedyness is not a good think. look what happened to branniff. they grew to fast. they need to take it slow.

Diesel,

I still haven't flown Jet Blue. All I can say is if I needed a backup carrier, I would fly them long before Southwest.

I do hope they come to ISP. If they are looking to expand in the NY area it makes perfect sense. There's no room at EWR or LGA.

Just a wish.

I agree with you about LGA. There's no room for them to pull that off there and I believe they would be eating away at their JFK ops if they started at LGA. EWR, on the other hand, makes a lot of sense to me. I'm sure there are very few people making the trip all the way from Jersey to get to JFK even with the low fares and all the positive buzz that JetBlue has in the NYC area.

Islip seems to make less sense to me. Why take on Southwest in a market where they're already established? Like you, I avoid flying them, but there are plenty of loyal SWA pax.

As for me, I stick with US for many of the same reasons you do, but I have flown JetBlue from time to time and have had a good experience on each occasion.

Art,
Give jetBlue a shot sometime. There are many many many former U employees over here. There are over 100 furloughed pilots here alone.

It looks like jetBlue is going to try and expand into LGA to blunt the Song offering. I wonder when EWR will be announced, and whether or not jetBlue has much of a chance to gain those slot exemptions. Their ability to do so will speak volumes about their political pull with the FAA and/or the NY body politic. It looks like more flights to FLL, or perhaps MIA.

Personally, I don't think there's a ghost of a chance JBLU will get LGA slot exemptions. However, if the USAir asset fire sale begins, JBLU will have a good chance of gaining entry then.

The slot exemption request is simply putting everyone on notice that if the slots are for sale, JBLU is buying.
