Dave,

If you truly want to be a leader. I suggest that you watch a movie called "We Were Soldiers". It stars Mel Gibson. Actually it would be a great idea for your executive staff to watch. I feel you do not have the loyalty, respect, and faith from your workforce and this movie may shine some light onto the subject and help you out. I feel your troops are up to the battle, but fear you may not be up to leading them. The movie contains basic novel ideas leadership skills that you may have not learned in school for your MBA.

Dave would have a hard time leading a group of cub scouts on a hike through a parking lot. He knows nothing about strong leadership, He is good at scaring the weak minded.

pitguy,

Do you really think that people can get mgmt skills from a movie?
Care to take another stab at that? Dave sure liked Austin Powers enough to parade around DCA looking like a fool in the begining.

Who says the man can't be influenced by the silver screen? :p

It is an excellent movie. One would "have" to watch it to understand the benefits for which I am referring to.

-Honestly I do not believe Dave has "it" in the core of his persona.

We got Dave because he was the only one Wolf could find that had the cajones to sign a $35,000,000 check for W & G for failing to meet their objective, the sale of USAirways to United. They all knew the stock would be canceled, and they had to pull their hard earned pay from somewhere. Dave's reward is his turn at the trough, unfortunatlely corporate thievery has been in the spotlight lately and the grab and run so common just a few years ago are more noticed than in the past and it has become a bit risky. In Daves defense, he has jumped into a situation where his top level support team is clueless in regards to the fat, redundancy, fear of making the wrong decision, selfishness, and anti-teamwork attitude that is prevalent throughout management. The few good managers we have that try to change the way of doing business for the better either get canned, or beat down to the point that they don't try to improve the situation, they just do what they are told regardless if it makes any sense, so they can hang on long enough to retire. Daves biggest mistake is giving retention bonuses (at the same time he is asking the people that do almost all of the work to take paycuts) while we have to watch our company go down down the tubes because of a bloated management structure (secondary reason) that are either incapable of, or afraid to make decisions to bring this company to the front of the pack(primary reason). We have all of the necessary resources including top of the line, experienced, CARING non management employees. We have a non-management employee group that will go above and beyound the call of duty when neccesary, however we aparently only work in crisis mode, because whenever they decide what we need to do, it takes them until the last minute to decide when it should be implemented and usually it is to late to make a difference. If Dave could show that he is rooting out management that lie, cheat, and steal, feathering their own nests at any cost (usually to the company) I'm sure that the employees who are truly running this airline would be willing to make further sacrifices to keep this company viable. If we could see some inovative thinking on the part of management in conjunction with asking the workforce their suggestions for improvement, most of us would sacrifice no end to be successful. But to be furloughed and take cuts, while counterproductive management are getting merit raises and retention bonuses (to the folks largely responsible for our situation in the first place) is just too much for some people and after decades of faithful service, they just give up.
