Another Southwest record?

I may be mistaken on this, but I think that Southwest broke a long-standing record in December with the delivery of 73G N261WN: The largest number of a single aircraft type delivered from the manufacturer (discounting Soviet-era Aeroflot).
Until now, this record had been held by American, who took delivery of 260 new MD-80s from McDonnell-Douglas between 1983 and 1992. Yes, I know that they operate well over 300 of the type, but the remainder were acquired with the TWA takeover.
If my count is correct, N261WN is their 261st -700 delivered from Boeing since December 1997. The first hundred were the N7XX series, followed by the N4XX series and now the N2XX group.
N262WN was just delivered this past week, so that (if my count is correct) makes 262 and rising...

I believe that you may be mistaken on the count. There are 2 of the N7xx that were taken up on leases and there are either 2 or 3 N7xx numbers that are not used because they were on -200s. The record will definitely broken in 2007. just my thoughts..........

Thank you for the clarification. Upon perusing the "jp airline-fleets" book more carefully, I see that you are (of course!) correct. N466WN and N799SW are the leased aircraft, while 702, 721, and 722 are the numbers skipped. So, it looks like N266WN should be the one that sets the record, in a month or two.
Wondering: After the N2XX series is finished, will the N8XX registrations commence next, or will the N5XX numbers above N528 be used? The -500s use the lower N5XX numbers, while the N3XX and N6XX numbers are on the -300s. Just curious, as the book shows future deliveries above N299 without reg numbers.
Also, what are the reg numbers of the two ex-Ford aircraft?

I believe the two ex-Ford aircraft are N270WN and N271LV.

Perusing the FAA registry, it appears that Southwest has reserved registrations for the N1XX, N8XX, and N9XX series, so your guess is as good as mine.
 
702, 721, and 722 are the numbers skipped

These numbers were used on the former Midway -200's we used from 1991 on. I know this because N721 haunted me during flight attendant probation!!! :unsure:

B) That plane, Vicki DeWitt, and my 25 minutes of Christmas in the ELP airport, were what I remember most about my first six months at SWA. :lol:
