MEC CODE-A-PHONE UPDATE - May 27, 2004
This is Jack Stephan with a US Airways MEC update for Thursday, May 27th, with two new items.
Item 1. The MEC convened its special meeting today at the MEC office in PIT and received a brief update in open session from the Negotiating Committee on several issues related to the execution of LOA 91 and the February 2004 MDA grievance settlement.
The MEC then spent the remainder of the day in closed session, receiving the initial analysis on the details of the Transformation Plan from the Negotiating Committee and ALPA’s legal and financial advisors. This analysis included the five areas that the Company, in an effort to seek cost reductions, is comparing all employee costs: seniority, productivity, rates of pay, benefits, and scope. The Committee and their advisors will continue to examine the Transformation Plan, in preparation to meet with management again next Tuesday to discuss several matters, including ALPA’s initial analysis of the Transformation Plan.
The MEC also received a brief report in closed session from the Grievance Committee on several current grievance items.
The MEC adjourned its meeting at 7 p.m.
Item 2. During the upcoming second quarter MEC meeting, the MEC is scheduled to conduct interviews for several Negotiating Committee positions, including one or more additional Negotiating Committee member positions and a Negotiating Committee Note Taker position, which is a Negotiating Committee member who has the additional responsibility of taking notes during the face-to-face discussions with the Company. Pilots interested in serving on the Negotiating Committee should notify MEC Secretary Treasurer Mike D’Angelo at the MEC Office at 800-USAIR MEC or notify their LEC representatives. Candidates are invited to address the MEC during the meeting, which is being held June 14-18 at the MEC office in PIT.
Please remember we have 1,879 pilots on furlough.
Thank you for listening.
Regards,
