"AirTran Crew Members (ramp/fleet, PCE/passenger service, reservations) today celebrate a historic victory. Results are in, and an overwhelming number of AirTran Crew Members agree with every other major work group at AirTran: Union, YES!"

AirTran employees vote to join machinists' union

Congratulations AirTran Crew Members!!! :D

First time back since the change and of course I'd screw it up. See next post!

I would hardly call 34% Pro, 30% Con & 36% non voting 'Overwhelming' but it is what it is. I can't wait to see the Atlanta ramp in the morning as I fly out on a trip. 34% standing around like TSA workers, 30% working & 36% with a 'Glazed' look in their eyes! Life is good!

Isn't this all a moot point, since the workgroup would have been union represented post-integration with WN?

.
AirTran Crew Members do not want to go through a merger without union protections. The Machinists union already represents the Southwest customer service agents and reservations agents.

That's very true. You don't want to go into a merger without some sort of protections at all. This is not a "merger so to speak". WN will take over FL and it's ops. If you read the SEC filng which Kelly and Fornaro wrote (a copy of it is probably on the IAM/Airtran message board). It clearly states that any FL employees who are not represented are not entitled to their jobs with the combined WN. So joining a union at least gives them protection in this merger as both unions will come together to integrate the staffs. I read somewhere that the IAM and TWU have some sort of "no-poaching" agreement, so there won't be any union elections, and the ramp will probably fold into the TWU once intregration will take place. Upstairs is IAM so that point is moot. Its just the seniority issues that will be the issue in this merger.

Once the Airtran Crew Members read that SEC filing, they knew if they wanted their jobs, they better organize. WN is heavily union and that was a smart move to get these folks organized so they can keep their jobs with a good carrier like WN.

We at CO knew that fact as well and we organized too.

Good luck to the Air Tran Crew Members!
