A deal with a Macon-based company to build a new, approximately 12,000-square-foot, commercial hangar at the Perry-Houston County Airport has collapsed.
Art MacDonald, chairman of the Perry-Houston County Airport Authority, said the board has ended months-long negotiations with Richard “Jet†Anderson’s Universal Aviation LLC, a firm that planned to open a new turbo aircraft repair shop, but wanted more.
“The discussion is over at this point,†MacDonald said. “We’ve been working on this deal since October, but the whole thing fell through because Mr. Anderson felt that our minimum standards were too restrictive.â€
MacDonald said Anderson planned to open a multi-faceted business at the airport.
“In addition to storage and maintenance, he had asked for approval to offer aircraft sales or a charter air service,†MacDonald said.
But the airport’s standards would have required Anderson to offer several amenities in return for such a large operation, including:
• maintaining an aircraft fueling service open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, with at least a 300-gallon fuel truck.
• leasing at least 60,000 square feet at the airport.
• maintaining a pilot lounge area.
• hiring a FAA-certified flight instructor for pilot ground school and flight training.
