American Eagle will start MIA-CLT on 6 January with two daily ERJ flights. As a result, American Airlines will reduce MIA-CLT from twice daily M80 to once daily M80. If I am not mistaken, this is the first ever daily ERJ service Eagle has featured from MIA.

Will the retirement of the ATR-42s (sold to FedEx) necessitate more daily RJ flights to MIA or will the remaining ATR-72s provide sufficient capacity? Of course, frequency to places like JAX and RSW has declined in the past couple of years. And MIA-MCO and MIA-TPA are now all large jets instead of Eagle.

The ATR-42s have not flown to Miami in a while. All ATR-42s are based in the Caribbean. I would not be surprised to see MIA-JAX switch to an RJ service in the near future, but MIA-RSW/EYW will definitley remain on ATRs. Future RJ services to MIA will almost entirely be services to new markets. I think we can look for AEagle to open up MIA-MKE, MIA-GSO, and MIA-ORF, among others. If I am not mistaken, the Concourse D extension (which opens Saturday!) features RJ gates.
