AA is waiting on the composite 737, before ordering more acft. Will this acft save the day? Not likely, we are in a Oil Crunch, quite different than the early 70's. Wheather you want to believe it or not, Oil has quaddroupled in price since 2005. It is not going down folks, and their are multiple reasons why. Maybe when you are paying $6.00/gl. to fill up that truck (This is called Demand Destruction), will people wake up. Chevron isn't placing FULL page ads, in many newspapers for nothing- "Won't you join us?" Which equates to conservation- I would advise people to do their homework. We currently use 9/brl of oil for everyone we find- That is a fact-

Actually ..AAS, Oil appears(in the short term) to be going back down. But you analysis(in the long term is correct)

AAS,...........know one thing,.....I could VERY easily see AA being the launch customer for a composite 737( the "material" is already here), but unlike you, I could see AA definitely make it a total success story.(ever wonder WHY AA has'nt mentioned "BOO" about the composite 787) ??????????

I could see the following things happen at AA.

737(composite).............YES, and a LOT of them..........(being THE launch customer, BIG savings....BYE/BYE..S-80's)

757.........flown for another 10 years.
767-"200's"......flown for another 10 years !...(JFK/LAX only) Fuel or no fuel, AA makes a $$$$ killing on that route.

767-300/"ER's"...flown for another 10 years....(not that old, and NOT that many of them)

787...????................Maybe NONE  ............Very LITTLE talk about the 787 from HDQ !!

(saved the BEST for last),

777........Boeing has a bit of a problem with the 787...............It "could" Undermine BIG TIME the 777 program.
AA to the 777(problem) rescue ????..........................I think YES(at a BIG $$$ savings), and, as was mentioned many months ago...the (right) 777, "could" replace the A-300 fleet.

OK...FWAAA.....................Jump in here !!!!!!!

Actually the only one that is talking about a new narrowbody is UAL, NHBB... UAL has approached boeing and airbus to design a composite NB AC for them... What happened to the 787, I thought it was going to be a for sure announcement at the Paris Air Show... I doubt that AA is making a killing on any route domestically, especially a transcon.. Also, VA will put a big cramp in UA and AA transcon business.. I have a feeling you are in for a rude awakening NHBBs...

The composite 737 replacement is not a new concept whatsoever. It will be an outgrowth of the 787 program, which is running delayed. Once that's back on track, I'd be shocked if there weren't a launch customer or two announced.

I love globalization! Boeing can't get the 787 produced because many of the outsourced parts aren't comming in on time, don't match up or are incomplete. Fuque 'em!
Live by globalization, die by globalization!

I would love to optomistic, but I think we are a day late. (view links in this site) http://www.oilcrisis.com/ It pretty much tells the tale. If we are in Peak Oil now, we are in trouble, with not enough time to mitigate a crisis. 20yrs optimal, 10yrs minimal, IF now..., we are screwed. View the U.S. GAO Report etc... Also...Robert L. Hirsch..and associated links in this site- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirsch_report I think we are in touble, if not late to the table........

Obviously, Oil WILL have an "end game", though at age 62, I won't be around to see it.(That does NOT mean, that I don't care about other younger people, who WILL have to go through it, because I do.)

As "Oil crisis" mentions....(when it happens), "different country's will be affected in different ways"..........(Think the Iraq war, or ANOTHER "reasonable facsimile"), so it will be quite some time before "the end game" is upon us.

Come on, it's not really that big of a crisis.

All we have to do is figure out is who is going to be in the group of 1-1.5 Billion people the remaining worlds energy can support. I'm sure we can convince the remaining 5+ Billion people that life in the middle ages really wasn't that bad, and that Soylent green is really a nutritious and tasty cracker.

Going to review a few history books. It seems oil was mentioned a few times with a few large wars.

Sorry 'bout the delay - been flying and just returned home. Those new 763 J seats are nice, but I wish AA had gone with ALL-Flat 180 degrees, parallel to the floor instead of the angled seats.

Anyway - NH/BBs - I agree with much of your thinking. AA has already hinted that it's gonna wait for the anticipated all-composite 738 replacement instead of ordering 200+ all-aluminum 738s. UA certainly doesn't have a monopoly on that approach.

757s will be around a long, long time. IIRC, they are the most fuel-efficient narrowbodies on a seat-mile basis. The new winglets make them even better. I'll predict they hang around another 15-20 years.

Composite 737? Yep. Lotsa them.

762s? First to go once the 787s arrive. Transcons will be flown with 787s in a 3-class configuration with flat suites up front in First. They're getting old, they're mx hogs and they're gas hogs. Buh-Bye, 762s.

763s? Second to go after the 762s. The winglets will help their resale value, they're not all that old, but the 787s will be much more fuel efficient.

777s? Perfect replacement for the AB6s. A little more cargo room and a few more seats. Since cargo is big in the AB6 market and the flights are packed with fairly good yields, the 777 will do fine in those SJU/MIA/Caribbean markets. Probably in a 2-class configuration with real reclining business seats (making Lima and other overnight flights more comfortable).

787s? Over 100 of them once AA and the pilots reach a wage agreement.

100 seaters? Over 100 of them once AA and the pilots reach agreement.

Once the NW merger is announced, look for discussion about 748s. B)
