I had always suspected this. I am glad that AMR is an advocate for a cleaner environment and is taking this issue to the streets.

LUV is in the middle of the city. DFW is out in the open.

Back in 1974 maybe, DFW jets take off over newer homes these days.

True, and I doubt that anybody has built a new home in the flight path of DAL for many, many years. If someone has built a new home near DAL, they are really stupid.

But out in the DFW neighborhood, there are lots of new homes every time I look down on final descent or on takeoff.

Here's the press release:

FORT WORTH, Texas, May 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In response to Texas Representatives Jeb Hensarling and Sam Johnson declaring today their intention to sponsor legislation to repeal the Wright Amendment, American Airlines Executive Vice President Dan Garton said:
"This is a double-whammy for North Texas. If Southwest gets their way again, both the economy and the environment will surely suffer. First, repealing the Wright Amendment will be a setback to the region's growth. Second, the inevitable and dramatic rise in air traffic at Love Field will harm the environment in the neighborhoods around the airport. Make no mistake, the number of flights from Love Field will increase to levels never planned.

"This push by Southwest reflects the understandably selfish intentions of a company that today is roaming the halls of Congress seeking special favors. If Southwest were sincere about growing and competing, they would be flying from DFW Airport -- and they wouldn't need an act of Congress. We're confident the community will not let Southwest risk the quality of life for North Texans just to preserve and expand their monopoly at Love Field."

American Airlines® We know why you fly(SM)

I'm baffled about how lowering the cost of air travel in Dallas is going to adversely impact the region's growth. And if AA moves a bunch of flight to DAL from DFW as previously threatened it will help the environment around DFW, so the DFW community should support WA repeal.

It certainly won't help ease auto traffic around DAL, especially on Mockingbird Ln.

I'm just waiting for this...

"In another news, DFW/AAtoday announced the results of a new study which revealed that:

- Repeal of the Wright Amendment causes baldness.

- Repeal of the Wright Amendment will cause the Earth to tilt on its axis.

- Repeal of the Wright Amendment will cause a giant earthquake that will swallow up Backman Lake and kill all the little cute duckies and fisheys..."

-Repeal of the Wright Amendment will threaten the natural habitat of the Giant Purple Snorklewhacker...

Film at 11....

I hope for the next 30 years every time AA gets in trouble for noise issues somebody whips out this idiotic quote and nails them to a cross.

I'm sure Charlotte and Atlanta would be surprised to know that a large expansion in air travel is terrible for the economy.

I suppose new sports stadium lead to city-wide low self-esteem as well.
