Sorry it's a couple of day late but A/C 576 a Boeing 737-301 ex Piedmont is on it's way to the desert. Had to go down and remove all catering supplies off before it left. Not sure if this was a maintenance pig or a lease was up or both. Not sure who the lessor is. Before leaving CLT it had a total time on the airframe of 52855 hours and total cycles of 33166. Another one bites the dust.

It is one of the planes that US abrogated the lease on and is returning it to the lessor.

Probably as good a place as any to bring aircraft status up to date....

These are the aircraft that US has requested to reject the leases, along with the "official" rejection date (notice 3 are still to be determined);

N524AU 737-300 Viacom 11/28/04
N587US 737-300 Wachovia Bank (Trustee) 4/10/05
N782AU 737-400 Wachovia Bank (Trustee) 4/17/05
N784AU 737-400 Wachovia Bank (Trustee) 4/17/05
N437US 737-400 US Bank National Assoc (Trustee) 4/17/05
N576US 737-300 Wachovia Bank (Trustee) 5/10/05
N584US 737-300 Wachovia Bank (Trustee) 5/10/05
N436US 737-400 US Bank National Assoc (Trustee) 5/10/05
N528AU 737-300 US Bank National Assoc (Trustee) 5/10/05
N586US 737-300 Wachovia Bank (Trustee) 6/10/05
N519AU 737-300 Wachovia Bank (Trustee) Rejection date TBD
N520AU 737-300 Wachovia Bank (Trustee) Rejection date TBD
N521AU 737-300 Wachovia Bank (Trustee) Rejection date TBD

In light of the Appeals Court ruling in the UA case that allowed aircraft to be repossed, I'll note that there are 142 other mainline aircraft currently involved in a dispute between US and US Bank National Association as trustee over cure/rent payments.

Interesting... what does Viacom have to do with aircraft leasing?

That's an A319 and presumably being returned to GE. Since the tail numbers of the planes going back to them were in the court approved deal (but redacted), there is no need for US to file motions to reject the leases on those planes.

I should have been clearer - my list above doesn't include the planes being returned under the GE deal, only those other planes that US has filed motions to reject.

Jim -

A/C's 782 and 784 are still showing as active aircraft in the fleet. Did we resolve those leases?

A/C584 ferried to Mohave today.

MMW,

My list comes strictly from court filings and nowhere else. The company filed motions and the judge approved rejecting the leases on those planes as indicated on my list (except for the 6/10/05 rejection, I don't think the judge has ruled yet).

It's only an assumption, but possibly an agreement was reached to extend the rejection date or something, but nothing different has been filed with the court.

Jim

ps - of course, it's always possible that I missed something in a filing along the line.

Here is a little update on the status of the aircraft BoeingBoy mentions earlier in this thread:

N524AU Last seen in MIA, not sure of current location/operator.
N587US Ferried PIT-GYR on 4-13-05
N782AU and N784AU Both still in service
N437US Ferried PIT-MZJ on 4-17-05
N576US Ferried CLT-GYR on 5-12-05
N584US Ferried PIT-MZJ on 5-12-05
N436US Ferried CLT-MZJ on 5-10-05
N528AU Ferried PIT-MZJ on 5-10-05
N586US Plus 519-520-521 all still in service.

For those of you not up on your desert boneyard codes
GYR is Goodyear, a PHX suburb and MZJ is Marana, north of Tucson.

As far as the 319's so far 726-727-728-729 have all been returned
to GECAS for onward lease to GermanWings, 729 is in PIT, the first
3 are I believe still in DUB, awaiting refurbishement.

Aircraft N524AU was previously registered (prior to deregistration) to
Wachovia, not Viacom as per the FAA Registry:

But if it was held by Viacom, could it have been a deal brokered by US Airways board member, Robert L. Johnson?? Just a guess!!??

Robert L. Johnson to Make Key Investment in RolloverSystems and Take Board Seat

CHARLOTTE, NC, March 31, 2005

Johnson is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in American business history. Johnson founded and managed BET for 25 years and was the majority owner of BET Holdings until 2000, when he sold it to Viacom, Inc. in a $3 billion deal.

In 2003, Johnson purchased the NBA Charlotte Bobcats and WNBA Charlotte Sting, becoming the first African-American NBA franchise owner. Johnson serves on the boards of several Global 100 companies, including US Airways Group, Lowe's Companies and Hilton Hotels Corporation.

Botched Airline Merger Makes Huge Impact
Lisa DiCarlo, Forbes.com, 07.03.01, 12:00 PM ET

NEW YORK - They say that one man's meat is another man's poison. But it's rare that one man's poison is the meat of millions. Yet that's the situation for billionaire Robert Johnson and millions affected by the now defunct United Airlines/US Airways merger.

Johnson is the founder of Black Entertainment Television, a cable channel he sold to Viacom (nyse: VIA - news - people) in November for $2.7 billion. A member of the US Airways (nyse: U - news - people) board, he was picked to run DC Air, a regional airline hatched to appease federal regulators. Johnson had pledged to pony up about $140 million to get the airline off the ground, and American Airlines (nyse: AMR - news - people) promised about $82 million for a 49% stake. US Airways had even set up a holding company, Potomac Air, to build the infrastructure to start flying as soon as the deal was rubber-stamped by regulators.

Now that the merger deal is all but dead, Johnson's goal to establish the first majority black-owned airline is at the very least in a holding pattern. With no experience--his seat on US Airways board notwithstanding--in the airline industry, Johnson may be hard-pressed to raise capital.

Then again, he may not need it. Johnson, worth $1.6 billion, can afford to push ahead on his own if he were so inclined.

You are correct - Wachovia is the trustee, therefore their name in the FAA database. However, they were not the owner (if leased) or investor (if an EETC). Where possible, I tried to ascertain the ultimate owner/investor but that was not possible from court filings in most cases so I only have the trustee.
